Quick Luddite Notes

🇨🇳 Some people shouldn’t be allowed to visit China

Noraly Schoenmaker, aka Itchy Boots, is a Dutch former geologist now transformed into a full-time solo motorcycle adventurer and YouTube filmmaker who has ridden over 200,000 km across more than 80 countries.

This madwoman is currently riding through China on her 1987 Yamaha Ténéré 700, nicknamed Frankie.

From her channel:

● Chinese secret police is following me 🇨🇳 |S8, EP158

It was not the “secret police.” It was the police, in an unmarked car. And one of the police officers was uniformed.

She stayed in a Chinese city bordering North Korea. From her hotel room, she had a direct view of buildings in a North Korean town. Not many people can do that. And she took her Yamaha on a magnificent road right on the border, with the left-side fence being the DPRK’s border fence. It was a technical glitch, we learned: that road wasn’t supposed to be open to private vehicles, but a barrier just opened, so she passed through! Nothing happened: not a police chase, no helicopters, no military. But, oh, “I am followed by the secret police!”

Arrogant, stupid Dutch.

● 24/7 police surveillance in China 🇨🇳 - the journalist treatment |S8, EP159

“This is the second day I’m under surveillance of Chinese police, along the border with North Korea.”

Oh, my.

● Journey erupts in chaos: stalked by Chinese police and motorcycle falls apart 🇨🇳 |S8, EP160

She is so important that the police are protecting her.

Why was she even allowed to enter China?
