🖱️ The silent-click: the horror of the times to come

For the second time in a month, I went to a brick-and-mortar store and I click-tested over 4 dozen computer mice. Or maybe they were in the 50-60 range? Either way, most of them were “silent-click” ones, and I found them utterly unusable!

Let me rephrase it: silent-click mice are impossible to use! While a mushy membrane keyboard is still usable, it’s impossible to use a mouse that doesn’t give you proper haptic and auditory feedback after ~40 years of using such mice!

This planet suffers from mass oligophrenia (aka Idiocracy). Not having a precise click because “working in an office or in a public library requires a silent mouse” is retarded.

So I need to cherish and keep in working condition for the rest of my life all the mice that I currently own and consider usable: 3 wireless mice (1 having 1000 DPI, 1 having 1200 DPI, 1 having max. 2000 DPI), 1 dual-mode BT/wireless vertical mouse (max. 2400 DPI), and 2 tri-mode BT/wireless/wired mice (high-DPI, higher than I need). In a couple of years, there might be no decent mouse to offer a proper “click” unless it’s an RGB gaming shitmouse!

The problem is that the last 3 of these 6 mice use an embedded rechargeable lithium-shit crap instead of an AA battery, so they’re bound to die and be unrepairable. Fucking saving the planet, eh?

This is why I explored the availability of non-silent, AA-operated, dual-mode (BT/wireless) mice. They don’t really exist. Not much.

As a possible exception, HP 430 (3B4Q2AA) seems “semi-silent”—but only barely usable. OTOH, from the silent-click mice, TRUST Bayo+ (25146) seems reasonably usable—on a vertical mouse, a lighter force to click might actually help.

On the BT-only front, the basic LOGITECH M196 mouse offers a classic click sound (just like the wireless M185, the successor of my M180 that I still have somewhere). But BT-only mice can only be used with laptops and tablets, not with PCs, where you can’t do anything to configure a mouse until… you have a mouse. And the M196 only has 1000 DPI.

When the “clicky” mice become unavailable, then I’ll know this planet has reached full Idiocracy-grade oligophrenia.

We’re already almost there. 99.9% of the new “office mice” models are silent. And 99.99% of the “gaming mice” are wired or rechargeable, and they have RGB lights.
