UN's Equal Earth Map
Every news report includes a grotesquely pixelated or blurred version of the UN-adopted map. And yet, a high-quality 19,250x10,238-pixel map can be downloaded for free from equal-earth.com!
I recommend the so-called “Florence Meridian (11E)” map because the “Greenwich Meridian (0)” one leaves part of Russia out of the map, and you need to look for it on the left, near Alaska.
Centering on Firenze vs. Centering on Greenwich.
Fun facts:
- Ukraine abstained from the UN vote because Crimea is shown isolated instead of being in Ukraine's color. But at least it isn't in Russia's, while de facto belonging to it since 2014.
- Japan voted in favor of the map, but now asks for the Kuril Islands not to be shown as Russia's. This is ridiculous and ignores the post-1945 realities.
- I don't even want to know if the UN adopted the map as shown in the above links or in the “India boundaries” version. The Kashmir region is disputed, but maps should reflect the reality, not anyone's claims or ambitions.
